Adaptive skiing for people with disabilities

Enjoy the freedom and test your possibilities. Skiing is possible for all people, no matter if they are physically or mentally handicapped. As part of our winter sports programmes, Freizeit-PSO supports people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities in accompanied skiing activities, adapted to individual abilities and needs.

Can’t go – There is no such thing! We try to find the right solution for adaptive skiing for everyone, regardless of their disability. All people are different and everyone has different needs! Together we will always find a good solution – also for you! Skiing even with disabilities becomes a very special experience.

The association provides suitable adaptive sports equipment such as mono-skis, bi-skis, sit-skis, crutch skis, or ski links. Participation takes place within the framework of supervised association and leisure activities and is supported by experienced, specially trained companions who ensure safety, orientation, and assistance.

Socially Tiered Fees

To make our programs accessible to as many people as possible, we use a socially tiered fee structure. Participants choose a fee from the available tariff groups according to their personal financial situation. For tariff groups ST1 and ST2, an informal application with a brief explanation is required. If necessary, a confirmation of on-site participation may be requested for internal processing.

Disciplines

Our disciplines in adaptive skiing

At Freizeit-PSO, skiing is accessible to people with a wide range of physical or intellectual disabilities. Through the use of adaptive equipment and accompanied support, each participant can practise movements and enjoy time on the snow — with safety always being the top priority.

Skiing with learning disabilities

Skiing is possible for everyone with us, including people with Down syndrome, autism, ADHD, or other learning disabilities. Special adaptive equipment makes it possible to automate certain movements, such as stopping, and to build muscle memory. This means that the participant does not need to be able to follow clear verbal instructions. Fun and safety always come first — learning happens naturally along the way!

Bi-Ski

With a bi-ski, people with a wide range of physical impairments can actively participate in skiing. Adaptive technology helps support movements while participants enjoy the activity safely under accompanied guidance. This discipline is suitable, for example, for people with spastic paralysis, hemiplegia, or traumatic brain injury. Even individuals with severe physical or intellectual disabilities can enjoy this popular sport with more or less assistance. Thanks to the advanced technology of the various bi-skis, nothing stands in the way of adaptive skiing for people with disabilities.

Mono-Ski

Mono-skiing is an ideal winter sport for people with paraplegia or other mobility impairments. Individuals with good upper body coordination (for example, paraplegia up to approximately T5) are able to use a mono-ski. Depending on their skills, all slopes can be explored without limitation. Both chair lifts and surface lifts can be used. Freizeit-PSO provides accompaniment for mono-skiing for beginners as well as advanced mono-skiers.

Skiing with visual impairment

People with visual impairments or blindness can experience skiing with individually tailored guidance. Together with an appropriately trained companion, safe routes and methods are established that match the participant’s abilities. Skiing for the visually impaired is possible for people with a wide range of vision impairments.

Stand-up skiing with outrigger – Three-Track & Four-Track

Crutch skis enable people with amputations or limited strength to move safely on the slopes. Individual guidance supports the safe use of the equipment. Skiing with crutch skis is possible on slopes of all difficulty levels.

.

Skiing with traumatic brain injury/MS

Even people with multiple impairments, such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, or multiple sclerosis, can enjoy winter sports thanks to adapted equipment and guidance.
